Bee Lee's 60th Birthday

BEE LEE GAN TURNING 60

Celebrate with us!

Dear Friends,

We are celebrating mum's 60th birthday this year and want to give you the opportunity to join in!

We are hoping to make a booklet of messages from friends and family who are not able to be in Singapore with us. If you have any old photos or videos or anything you'd like to send, please send it to us before April 1 so we have time to put it together.

If you are in Singapore on June 6, please also let us know as we are also trying to organise a small party and will need numbers for catering purposes.

Thanks again for all your love and support over the years and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Jacob & Debbie Choi

Doulos Phos moved from Singapore to Batam, Indonesia in 2013
Doulos Phos still in much need to renovation
Summary Prayer Points
  • Pray for the many non-Christians that I come into contact with through BSF, hospital and hospice visitations, club meetings, that I will be able to share the Gospel of Christ clearly with them
  • Pray for wisdom as the Lord draws people to me who ask for advice and counselling
  • Pray for Eric Saw and the completion of the Doulos Phos

Dearest Friends

Many people have been wondering what I've actually been doing since Kenny's passing. I'm afraid that it's sometimes hard for me to put words to a page especially since I do not have a title or job description within OM though I am still serving here in London under the leadership of George Verwer. For the most part, my passion is and always has been evangelism and discipleship. This was Kenny's heart as well but with our different personalities, this often plays out in different ways. Kenny was more on the pulpit but both of us often spent even more time with people one-on-one and this is exactly the ministry and I continue to be a part of.

What does this look like in my reality? I have been hugely involved in various groups from churc, BSF (Bible Stufy Fellowship) and various secular clubs such as the Singapore Club here in London. This gives me access to a myriad of people and on occasion, they even come to me in the office for counselling. God has blessed me with experience and this is what I use to counsel struggling couples, Christians who are interested in missions, single mothers (and sometimes I do babysitting as wel) and general people I meet along the way who seem comfortable with asking me for advice. It is only the Lord's wisdom that has enabled me to continue in this ministry. Other than this, I often have people come along with me to visit hospitals, old folks home and other people who are less mobile but still need to hear and see the Gospel. I hope that gives you a better understanding of the ministry that God has called me to and that it will also help you better pray for me.

Another area in which I have been involved and which I would particularly like to share with you in this newsletter, is that of the Doulos Phos. Some of you will remember that OM sold the Doulos back in March 2010 to a Christian Singaporean business man named Eric Saw who renamed the ship Doulos Phos. Kenny and I both had the privilege of meeting him and was asked to journey alongside him in prayer and advice where we were able to. I have continued to be a part of a core group that meets weekly to pray and offer advice. He had big plans for the ship to retain it's history and continue in ministry as a stationary structure. Since then, however, there have been countless disappointments, trials, hardships and invoices in regards to getting the Doulos Phos ready for such a future. There was an article that was distributed not too long ago that suggested that the ship was nearly ready to receive the public after it was finally moved to Batam, Indonesia in 2013 but this article was very misleading as there is still much refurbishment and renovation to still be started yet alone completed. This June, he will need to a find a new contractor that can hopefully complete the project by mid-2017 but with many previous contractors not delivering and costing Eric enormously financially, there is much uncertainty and lack of confidence.
Please do pray for Eric Saw and for the completion of the Doulos Phos in Bintan so that it's ministry can continue.

Thank you again for standing together with me in prayer and support over the years,

Bee Lee

Blessed Christmas to all my faithful and beloved supporters

This year has been a year of new challenges caring for my dad who requires intensive care and Kenny's parents who are both very ill, which took the toll on me and I had to be hospitalised for a severe virus infection. Praise God, with His Divine help, I am back on my feet again. God is constantly molding me and He has opened new ways to stretch me.

I have been more involved out on the streets doing door-to-door outreach in London with diverse nationalities and finding it to be a great place to be His witness. My travels and experiences visiting various countries is a springboard for engaging in a conversation. Giving a listening ear; hearing the hurting moves me to become more God-conscious and having His grace to minister in ways bringing positive result causes my heart to be grateful that I have someone mighty and great looking after all of us despite who we are and our circumstances. I am also involved in Hospital Visitation and Prayer for the sick, as part of the ongoing ministry alongside the local church. It is a joy to see their hopelessness turned to being hopeful, knowing that there is a Greater Power who is able to do more than we can imagine. Encouraging them and standing with them in their hour of need and praying is a great privilege.

My involvement with BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) has given me opportunities to do Public Relations for OM as many are not aware of what OM does. Recently, as you may have heard or seen in the media of the massive influx of migrants reaching our shores, have caused the government to take stringent action. Unfortunately, this has affected Christian organisations and missionaries having to leave UK. Thank God for Kenny's foresight to get us, as a family, a PR status. With OM UK, our recruiting license have been revoked, which will impact our short-term mission ventures. Please pray for wisdom for our leaders and new visions from our Lord who knows what is best.

This November the 17th is Kenny's home-going anniversary. 3 years have passed, He is absent in body but present in spirit. Although, he is not here with me, I can still recall his laughter and fond memories of him are embedded in my mind. I have come to realise how much Kenny has sheltered us, his family. I have taken over all of Kenny's email and communications. Unbeknownst to me, Kenny had to deal with many cons and the wolves in sheep's clothing too. I received frightening and hurtful phone calls which has led me to be fearful and caused me to withdraw. Praise God not any longer. God has strengthened me and I am now wiser in handling them. With Kenny's Memorial Fund set up by George Verwer, I have dispersed the funds according to Kenny's passion to extend God's Kingdom in providing for the pastors and the needy in all the places that Kenny have been ministering to, especially the Philippines. Pray for the 25th Anniversary of OM Philippines this November.

Finally, God has blessed me with a wonderful daughter and son-in-law and, of course, not to mention my darling grand-daughter. Debbie sends me videos of Shiphrah. She amuses me. I love my family who are all in God's good care.

Journeying with the Lord is always challenging and His comfort is always refreshing. I want to thank all my friends around the globe for your love and care in words and in practical ways. Though we are far apart, yet we are able to keep in touch and uphold each other in prayer.

Once Again a Blessed Christmas and A Blessed New Year.

In His Service,

Gan Bee Lee

Dear Friends

A very belated Happy Easter! While I was about to send this out, I had to rush back to Singapore to be with my family as my father had a particularly bad fall and was placed in intensive care. He had internal bleeding in his head and the doctors have not been too positive about his condition. Please pray for him as he has yet to recognise Jesus  as his Lord and saviour, and for my siblings who also watch on helplessly without Christ as their anchor. Kenny's parents have also been in poor health so we would appreciate prayer all around.

Singapore
I am so grateful that I was able to spend Christmas 2014 with family, our home church (Bedok Methodist Church) and with so many friends including a special visit to Hiding Place. It was a truly special time to be able to catch up with so many and to be able to enjoy time with Jacob, Debbie and Shiphrah too.

UK
I still find London to be my home and a place to rest. It has been 13 years since February 2002 when Kenny, Debbie and myself first moved here. I have now spent the same length of time here as I spent on MV Doulos! I am thankful for the local church that I have been involved with, keeping me busy in the children's and senior's ministry as well as helping out in their missions, evangelism and social ministries. Something new that I've been enjoying is also being able to study the word of God with a BSF group. I also joined the Singapore Club which gives me so much opportunity to share the good news. Recently, OM also celebrated their 50th Anninversary in Bromley and I was blessed to meet up with many "Spiritual Giants" of the 1960's. I definitely have not been bored.

Cyprus
As mentioned, I have been fairly involved with the missions aspect of the local church and as part of that, I went on a mission trip with a team from the church to Cyprus. Praise the Lord for granting us a very fruitful and blessed time. The church made a video to summarise our trip, if you would like to take a look at it, please click here.

UPCOMING TRIPS
I'll be traveling back to Singapore on 21 April to see family and assist my sister in looking after my father. From there, I'm looking forward to visiting Jacob, Debbie and Shiphrah in Australia on 7 May and staying on the celebrate Shiphrah's first birthday in June. How time flies! I will then be returning back to London to attend our OM Team Retreat before going on another mission trip in July with details to yet be confirmed. Lastly, I sincerely hope to be able to return to Singapore again in August to celebrate Singapore's 50th Anniversary with family and friends in lieu of the recent passing of our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

In closing, I am not as good as Kenny when it comes to communication and keeping in touch so it means a huge deal to me that you have been so faithful in friendship, prayer and support. I do continue to praise the Lord for His faithfulness through you.

Much love,

Bee Lee Gan
